This document outlines how to use the BACnet MSTP protocol on the Acuvim II series meter.  The BACnet MSTP protocol is built into the meter rather than using an external communication module.
By default, the communication protocol of the Acuvim II series meter is Modbus, this document will instruct users on changing this protocol setting to BACnet.  The document will also introduce the BACnet settings in the meter required for communication.
 

Changing the protocol to BACnet MSTP

To change the protocol of the Acuvim II series meter, the system settings must be accessed.
  • From the meters display press ‘H’ and ‘V/A’ for about a second and release.  The display will become blank, and ‘Meter’ will be flashing.





    
   
  
 


 
  • With the cursor flashing, press ‘P’ or ‘E’ to move the flashing cursor to ‘Setting’. Press ‘V/A’ to enter the settings.
 
  • A password screen will be prompted, the password can be left as the default of ‘0000’.  Press ‘V/A’ to continue.


                                               





 

 

 

 

  • The cursor will be on "SYS", press ‘V/A’ to enter the system settings.







 

 

 

 

  • Press ‘E’ until the “S38 PROTOCOL 1” screen is reached.  This is the communication protocol setting for the meter, by default it is set to Modbus.
     
  • Change this setting to “BACNET”.  To change the protocol:
    • Press ‘V/A’ to enter edit mode.
    • Press ‘P’ or ‘E’ to change the setting to ‘BACNET’.
    • Press ‘V/A’ to confirm the setting.

BACnet Configurations


Now that the protocol of the meter has been changed to BACnet, users can now configure the required BACnet settings.  These settings are used to communicate with the BACnet system via BACnet MSTP.
 
  • From the system settings press ‘P’ to go to “S51 MSTP MAX INFO FRAM” page.  This is the Max information frames configuration setting.
  • The default max info frame is 10, to change this setting:
    • Press ‘V/A’ to enter edit mode.
    • Press ‘H’ to move between digits.
    • Press ‘P’ to increase digit, press ‘E’ to decrease digit.
    • Press ‘V/A’ to confirm the setting.

  • Press ‘P’ to go to the “S52 MSTP BACNET ID” page.  This is the BACnet Instance number configuration setting.
  • By default, the BACnet instance is configured as 1, to change this setting:
    • Press ‘V/A’ to enter edit mode.
    • Press ‘H’ to move between digits.
    • Press ‘P’ to increase digit, press ‘E’ to decrease digit.
    • Press ‘V/A’ to confirm the setting.

  • Next press ‘P’ until you reach the “S01 ADDR” page.  This is the MAC address setting.
 
  • By default, the MAC address is configured as 1, to change this setting:
    • Press ‘V/A’ to enter edit mode.
    • Press ‘H’ to move between digits.
    • Press ‘P’ to increase digit, press ‘E’ to decrease digit.
    • Press ‘V/A’ to confirm the setting.










 

 

 

  • Next press ‘P’ to go to the “S02 BPS” page.  This is the baud rate setting.
 
  • By default, the baud rate is configured as 19200, to change this setting:
    • Press ‘V/A’ to enter edit mode.
    • Press ‘P’ or ‘E’ to change the setting.
    • Press ‘V/A’ to confirm the setting.







 

 

 

 

 

  • To get back to the main metering mode press 'H' and 'V/A' at the same time for a second, 'Setting' will be flashing.  Press either 'P' or 'E' to move the flashing cursor to 'Meter' and press 'V/A' to enter the main metering mode.
